ASCA's committees provide an opportunity for members to get involved with Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµand advance the school counseling profession. Committees serve an important role in supporting Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµproducts and services – from assisting with ethical queries to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Board of Directors Committees
Requirements: Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµProfessional or Retired member with previous Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµor state school counselor association participation/engagement. Term: One year
- Nominations and Elections Committee: Facilitate the selection and election of qualified candidates for the Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµBoard of Directors. Requirement: Have completed ASCA U School Counseling Association Leadership Specialist training within the past five years.
- Member Linkage Committee: Assist the board in its duty to proactively link with the ownership/ members. The committee also plans the annual business meeting in accordance with Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµbylaws, policies and procedures.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
Provide feedback that supports and aligns with ASCA's vision and mission. Promote DEI awareness throughout ASCA's work. Explore new opportunities to highlight DEI awareness in school counseling. Requirements: Have completed ASCA U DEI Specialist training within the past five years. Term: Two years
Professional Development Committees
- Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµConference Program Committee: Review and select proposals for conference breakout sessions. Term: One year
- Training and Online Learning Committee: Provide input for relevant and timely professional development aligned with the Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµNational Model for school counselors, school counseling graduate students, district directors and school counselor educators. Term: One year
Publications & Research Committees
- Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµResearch Grants Review Committee: Reviews and selects project proposals for grant funding. Term: One year
- ASCA School Counselor Magazine Editorial Advisory Committee: Work with editor to suggest possible issue themes, topics and authors. Term: Two years
- Professional School Counseling Journal Reviewers: Review approximately one submitted manuscript per month. Time to review: 30 days. Requirements: Prior experience as a reviewer of journal manuscripts and/or experience as an author in Professional School Counseling. Term: Three years
Recognition Programs Committees
- ASCA-Certified School Counselor Committee: Help maintain high-quality certification program that demonstrates individual school counselor knowledge in designing, implementing and assessing a school counseling program. - ASCA-Recognized School Counselor Preparation Program Reviewers: Review completed program reports from college/university programs seeking the Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµnational recognition through CAEP. - Recognized Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµModel Program (RAMP) Committees: Serve as a reviewer or lead reviewer determining which schools earn RAMP recognition or reviewing and approving state RAMP-affiliated programs. Learn more about RAMP or apply.
- School Counselor of the Year Selection Committee: Review and score the School Counselor of the Year applications, select the finalists and the national School Counselor of the Year. Term: One year
Standards & Positions Committees
- Ethics Committee: Assist with responses to legal and ethical inquiries. Contribute to ASCA's professional development opportunities as appropriate. Provide input into web content and magazine articles. Assist with the revision of the Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµEthical Standards for School Counselors. Requirements: Have completed ASCA U Ethics Specialist training within the past five years. Term: Three years
- Position Statements Committee: Update existing position statements and create new statements outlining the school counselor's role in areas with an impact on school counseling programs. Term: Two years
State/Territory School Counselor Association Committees
Requirements: Complete both the ASCA U School Counseling Association Leadership Specialist and the ASCA U DEI Specialist within the past five years; hold a current or past SCA leadership role (within the past three years); SCA member for three-plus years.
- State/Territory School Counselor Association Advisory Committee: Provide input on supports needed for the success of ASCA-affiliated state/territory school counselor associations. Contribute to grassroots networks and education and training development. Term: One year
- State/Territory School Counselor Association Staff Advisory Council: Provide input from the perspective on supports needed for success of ASCA-affiliated state/territory school counselor associations. Contribute to grassroots networks and education and training development. Term: One year
